Lakes will start to improve as the water cools down. Some of them will be very murky when they turn over, but that condition should fade and be followed by good fishing. Callibaetis mayflies make a comeback in September, and midges will be very important. The all-important, never to be left behind Woolly Bugger will be very effective in September.

Most of Idaho's lowland stillwater fisheries are reservoirs, and some may be dry by September or too low for fishing. It depends on whether it's a drought year or not--and lately most years are drought years. Before you go, check with a local source to make sure there is water in the reservoir.
