Terrestrials are insects and other small animals that live on land. They are important to trout (and thus to fly anglers) because they sometimes end up on the water.

The most common terrestrials that anglers focus on are hoppers, beetles, and ants. For more information, refer to the Westfly pages for those species. In addition, there are other terrestrials that can be important, such as inch worms, caterpillars, crickets, and yellow jackets.
