Uses

Like a surprisingly large number of effective flies, this pattern started out as somebody's idea of a joke. The laugh was on the fish, however. It's not hard to see why: peacock sword and peacock herl will catch anything with fins, red is an attractive color (when wet), and partridge hackle is seductively life-like.

The fly seems to work especially well with stocked trout. Being raised in a concrete tank probably gave them a "survivor" sense of humor.

How to Fish

In lakes, use a slow retrieve or count-down-and-retrieve presentation.
