Uses

Imitates a beetle. Trout take beetles more often than they take grasshoppers, yet few anglers carry imitations. Small patterns such as this are easy to tie but are very effective.

How to Fish

Do NOT dress the fly with floatant! When the fly no longer floats well, put it in a small container of powdered descicant, such as Dry Shake, and shake it up. This removes the moisture, and you're ready to cast again.

 
Use standard dry fly presentations.

Tying Instructions

1. Start thread and tie in CDC feather, butt-first.

 
2. Tie in two peacock herl fibers; cover 80% of shank. Tie off and trim.

 
3. Pull CDC over the back of the fly. Tie off at the head.

 
4. Pull 3-5 CDC fibers back along each side of the fly and trim to "leg length."

 
5. Trim the rest of the CDC feather, and whip-finish.
