  CDC Bubble Emerger

Uses

This mayfly emerger pattern was designed for smaller mayflies such as PMDs and Baetis. It may also work for larger mayflies such as March Browns, Callibaetis, and Green Drakes.

Use the fly when mayflies are emerging in the water and trout are sipping flies from the surface or near surface.

Variations

On larger sizes, you may want to use a standard or light wire scud hook, or else you need a lot of CDC to make the fly float in the surface film.

How to Fish

Do NOT dress the fly with floatant! CDC flies should be fished au natural. When a fly no longer floats well, put it in a small container of powdered descicant, such as Dry Shake, and shake it up. This removes the moisture, and you're ready to cast again.

Use standard dry fly presentations.

Tying Instructions

1. Tie in pheasant tail fibers for tail.

2. Tie in fine wire (optional).

3. Wrap pheasant tail, tie off and trim.

4. Rib abdomen with wire, if used. Tie off and trim.

5. Tie in CDC tips. One feather is enough for all but largest sizes.

6. Tie in pearl Krystalflash

7. Make bubble out of CDC, tie off and trim.

8. Make two wraps of sparkle dubbing to match the body.

9. Whip-finish and cement.
