HOOK: Mustad 9840, sizes 16-24

THREAD: To match body

TAIL/SHUCK: Ostrich herl as long as the hook shank

BODY: Fur dubbing in black, red, olive, or to match local insects

WING: White or gray CDC, clipped short

HACKLE: Brown-dyed grizzly or blue dun

 

Uses

Imitates a midge that is emerging from its pupal shuck--or that didn't succeed in emerging.

Variations

Vary the body color to match local midges

How to Fish

On lakes, use the chuck-and-sit presentation. On rivers, use standard dry fly tactics.
