Uses

This variation of the popular Prince nymph uses the "hot spot" principle. For more information, see the article Hot Spots.

Variations

A bead head is optional, but is usually a good idea. The traditional tie uses brown hackle, but CDC can be an effective substitute.

How to Fish

In rivers, dead drift the fly near the bottom with the indicator or tight line presentations. In lakes, use an intermeditate line and a count-down-and-retrieve or slow retrieve presentations. When lake fishing, experiment with different retrieves until you find one that works well: slow and steady, slow pulls with a pause between pulls, short pulls of moderate speed.

 
A vertical retrieve or lift-and-settle presentation can work, too.

Tying Instructions

1. Debarb hook, place in vise, start thread.

 
2. Tie in chartreuse butt.

 
3. Tie in brown goose biots in "v" style.

 
4. Tie in Pearl Flashabou.

 
5. Dub hare's ear body. Wrap with pearl ribbing.

 
6. Tie in hackle and make 2-3 wraps. Tie off and trim.

 
7. Tie in white goose biots in "v" over the back of the fly.

 
8. Dub Peacock Ice-Dub for throat.

 
9. Whip finish and trim thread.
